Achillion Palace

This luxurious villa was built in the late 1800s as the summer retreat of Empress Elisabeth of Austria. It is one of Corfu's most popular attractions and is well worth the visit for the beautiful murals, statues and paintings. The gardens are magnificent with lovely views over Corfu Town and the sea. You may recognise the Palace as the location for the casino in the 1981 James Bond film 'For Your Eyes Only'. The Palace is located in the beautiful village of Gastouri, about 10 kms south of Corfu Town.

Church of Agios Spyridon, Corfu Town

The Church of Agios Spyridon is the most famous church in Corfu and its beautiful bell tower, the tallest on the island, is one of the most photographed. St Spyridon is the protector saint of Corfu and he is buried in the church under a sarcophagus adorned with precious stones. The church was built in 1589 and is situated in the centre of Corfu Town.

Aqualand is the 'most amazing Water Park in Europe' and a fun day out for the family. You will find 15 adventure pools, 38 different slides and the third largest wave pool in the world. Small children will love the Slippery Octopus, the Screaming Frog and the Caribbean Pirate Adventure and the 'big kids' will love the giant slides - the Four Twisters, the Black Hole, the Kamikazes ......If you need a break from the water, try the bouncing castle, adventure playground, video arcade or mini-car course. Aqualand is open seven days a week from May to October. Opening hours are May-June 10am-6pm, July-August 10am-7pm and September-October 10am-6pm. Aqualand is centrally located at Agios Ioannis about 10 kms west of Corfu Town.

The Esplanade, Corfu Town

Locally called 'Spianada', The Esplanade is the central square of Corfu Town. It is here you will find some of the most beautiful buildings in Corfu Town - the Liston, the Ionian Academy and The Palace of Saint Michael and Saint Georges. Designed by the French the Esplanade is a mix of green space, landscaped gardens and town square with a fountain and elegant bandstand where you sometimes hear local musicians play. It is a place for relaxing. There are many elegant restaurants and cafes around the Esplanade where you can take a break or you can sit on the grass and watch the world go by.

Corfu has a varied nightlife. The Corfu Trail and Mount Pantokrator

Corfu is a paradise for people who love walking and trekking. The Corfu Trail is a 222 km walking trail that runs the length of the island of Corfu and meanders through 100 different villages, beautiful country landscapes and stunning beaches. Members of the Corfu Trail Trust have created this unique trail along age-old tracks, dirt roads and cobbled mule paths to pass through many scenic and historic highlights on the island. If you're not up to the 12 day walk, why not do short sections of the Trail. One of the highlights is Mount Pantokrator, Corfu's highest peak (915m). You can walk to the top of Mount Pantokrator, or you can drive - there is a narrow road with numerous hairpin bends.

The Old Fort was largely built by the Venetians in the 1500s. It sits at the east end of Corfu Town on a rocky peninsula surrounded by a moat. A paved walkway has replaced the drawbridge and the fort is open daily to visitors. It is quite extensive so take the time to wander along its walls and enjoy the views over Corfu Town and the coast. Don't miss the multi-lingual sound and light show every evening from May to September.

Music FestivalsMantzaros Band, Corfu

Corfu has a musical heritage which goes back hundreds of years to the time of Venetian rule. There are traditional Corfiot songs and dances and many brass bands. You will see these bands during Corfu festivals such as Easter, St Spyridon Day and Independence Day. The Corfu Festival every year hosts a series of musical events including jazz, classical and percussion.

 

 

 

 

Paleokastritsa cave, Corfu

Paleokastritsa

Paleokastritsa is one of the most beautiful places in Corfu. On the drive to Paleokastritsa you will see magnificent scenery and on your arrival you will find a charming village in a spectacular setting. There are a number of pretty coves with crystal clear waters ideal for swimming, snorkelling and diving. Filming was done in this area for the James Bond movie 'For Your Eyes Only'. Paleokastritsa is 26 kms northwest of Corfu Town.
