Corfu – Green Island in the Blue Sea Located opposite of Italy’s boot heel at the mouth of the Adriatic Sea in the Ionic Sea, Corfu is known as the greenest island of Greece. Thanks to the Venetians, about two million olive trees (of which many are several hundreds years of age) make the island appear green throughout the whole year. No wonder that tourism started as early as in the 19th century. Empress Sissy built herself a summer residence (the Achillion) which later was bought by Emperor Wilhelm II. Eversince, he was considered a welcomed guest on the island and there are still many memorials to be seen (Emperor’s thrown). Today, Corfu has an international airport as well as ferry connections with Italy, making it easily accessible for tourists. Nevertheless, tourists dearly appreciate the many untouched places, especially during fall and springtime. To get there or to the harbour it is only about 200 m, to the larger beach about 100 m further. Good eating out There are some excellent tavernas, for instance the fine fish restaurant „To the three Brothers“, within walking distance. Nearby Shopping A small minimarket for the most needed goods is at a distance of about 300 m. More stores are found in the holidays resorts Roda (4 km), Sidari (6 km), and Acharavi (8 km). In the neiboring village Karoussades (1,5 km) there is an excellent butcher, a bakery, small stores, a post office, and more tavernas. Medical Assistance There are English speaking doctors in Roda, Acharavi, and Karoussades. Ride yourself – on two wheels Bicyles, motor scooters and motorbikes can be rented at "SUNRIDERS - MOTORBIKES FOR HIRE". All transfers are included in the service. Getting There:
From many airports you get a direct flight to Corfu. It is about 35 km from the airport Kerkyra (Korfu City) to Villa Maria. A taxi can be ordered in advance. The trip takes about 45 minutes.From the airport turn right.Then through the city of Corfu, and you see the sign for PALAIOKASTRITSA-PORT.At Crossroad to Paleokastritsa j turn right following the signs to KAROUSSADES-AGNOS.Through the village you see a sign to ASTRAKERI, turn left after 200 m there is the sign VILLA MARIA which leads guideline to Apartments.
