Getting Around Corfu

Local Buses on Corfu

There are two local bus services on Corfu:

  • The municipal bus service (the blue buses) operates in Corfu town and nearby areas. These buses leave from San Rocco Square in Corfu Town.  Purchase tickes before boarding the bus, or buy tickets in advance from the bus company kiosk in the Square or village shops.
     
  • The country and long distance service by KTEL operates a regular daytime bus service (the green buses) between Corfu Town and all towns and villages around the island. They also offer services to Athens and Thessalonika. KTEL services leave from the bus station near the New Port in Corfu Town.

You will find timetables at the main bus station in Corfu Town and at the main bus stops in all other areas.  The bus service is cheap and reliable during the summer tourist season, however services are cut back in the off-season.

 

Rent a Car on Corfu

Corfu is a large island and renting a car will give you greater flexibility to explore the many places of interest on the island. Rental cars can be collected when you arrive at the airport, port or in Corfu Town and there are many rental car companies to choose from.

If you want to hire a car (or bike) you will need to have a valid driving licence as well as a passport. The law states that seat belts and crash helmets must be worn.

Driving any vehicle whilst over the legal drinking limit is heavily penalised.

There are plenty of  car rental agencies at the airport, at the port, at any hotel reception, or anywhere around Corfu Island.
  

 

Corfu Taxis

There is also a good taxi service on Corfu. Taxis are readily available. Be sure to agree on the fare before beginning your trip as many taxi drivers don’t use meters.

There are taxi terminals on Sarocco Square, on the Esplanade in Corfu Town as well as at the airport and the port.

Rent a Boat on Corfu

Renting a boat is a wonderful way to explore the scenic coastline of Corfu. Get away from the crowds and discover a quiet cove, swim on secluded beach or anchor at a harbourside taverna for a relaxed meal. A rental boat gives you the freedom and flexibility to make the most of your Corfu Island holiday.
